Deadline: October 20th
The National Academy of Sciences is requesting summaries, citations, and other information regarding “…existing programs, initiatives, practices, and approaches that support early relational health (ERH) for infants, young children (ages 0-5 years), families, and communities. “ NASEM committee reports are used to inform Congress, NIH, NSF, and other agencies regarding evidence to be used in decisions to fund research and interventions to support children, families and communities.
“Early relational health” is a construct that broadens health beyond an individual/pediatric definition to include a much wider, “…dynamic process of nurturing, responsive, and mutually affirming relationships between young children and the parents, caregivers, family members, and other important people in their lives”, including cultural contexts, families and community settings.
This initiative and request for submissions includes studies and programs that include cultural and other contexts, and social and/or economic supports for infants, children (0-5), families and cultural communities. It can include qualitative, ethnographic and mixed methods.
Website for submitting: Early Relational Health (ERH) Determinants of Future Health and Wellbeing.
This Academy panel “…welcomes information about established programs as well as emerging, locally developed, culturally specific, or community-driven approaches. Respondents do not need to demonstrate that a program has been formally evaluated to submit information.”
The topics and kinds of programs / interventions might include “…prenatal care, early care and education, family support (e.g., social and/or economic supports), public health, health care, child welfare, community, cultural, or other settings, as well as efforts that address the broader conditions that enable children and caregivers to develop and sustain nurturing, responsive relationships.”
Instructions: When you see the site, scroll down and you will see this: “Request for Information (RFI). Early Relational Health Programs Request for Information”. Click on the arrow within that box and it will take you to the request for information and then to a box saying “NEXT” which will take you to 5 information boxes the Academy would like to include. You can also simply include references, including reports and unpublished material if relevant.
Thanks for considering contributing information for the committee to review if you have relevant research. The deadline for submissions is October 20th.
