The SMA Mentorship Program aims to build a more connected and supportive medical anthropology community across institutions, ranks, and career paths. The program pairs emerging scholars and mid-career with anthropologists whose research and professional experiences align with their interests.
Mentor–mentee pairs will meet via Zoom beginning September 2026 and continue through August 2027.

- Open to graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and mid-career faculty
- Free to participate (SMA and AAA membership not required)
- AAA Annual Meeting attendance not required
Mentorship streams include:
- Graduate Students & Postdocs – dissertation development, job market navigation, and early research agendas
- Mid-Career Scholars – promotion, shifting research programs, administrative roles, and sustaining research alongside caregiving and institutional demands
