The Society for Medical Anthropology’s Health Professions Education Special Interest Group (SMA HPE SIG) invites submissions for the inaugural 2026 Anthropology and Health Professions Education Student Prize.
This annual prize recognizes outstanding students with the potential for leadership at the nexus of Medical Anthropology and Health Professions Education. To emphasize the importance of leadership, innovation, and communication skills, applicants will respond to a prompt related to Health Professions Education, with creative mixed media entries encouraged. The winner will receive a monetary prize of $100 plus student memberships in the American Anthropological Association (value ~$50), Society for Medical Anthropology (free with AAA membership), and the Health Professions Education Special Interest Group (free with SMA membership). Up to two finalists may also be named and will receive memberships in the AAA, SMA, and HPE.
The SMA HPE SIG Student Prize is open to students of anthropology at all levels, including undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and health professions students. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree-granting program (including BA, BS, BSN, MA, MS, MPH, MSN, MD, and/or PhD) and submit proof of student status if requested.
