Wayne State University seeks Chair of Department of Public Health

The Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position as Chair of a newly formed, undergraduate-serving Department of Public Health. We are seeking an active scholar who has the leadership, experience, and vision to take this Department to a new level.

Job Description

We seek an energetic, entrepreneurial, collegial individual to direct and oversee all activities of the fastest-growing major in CLAS, as well as all facets of Departmental development, such as hiring faculty and administrative staff, establishing mentoring and development plans for new and existing personnel, engaging in space management and planning, partnering with other campus units, and developing bylaws and a strategic plan.

Job Duties

Job duties will also include supervision of curriculum development and innovation, recruitment and student outreach efforts, practicum planning and community engagement, coordination and support of teaching personnel and undergraduate advisers, course scheduling and course planning across semesters, and management of student and alumni data. The successful applicant will also help plan for and achieve accreditation of the undergraduate program from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), and teach at least one course per year in their field of expertise in public health.

The individual hired for this position will have the unique opportunity of working with existing faculty in both various departments in CLAS including Sociology, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Urban Studies, Nutrition & Food Sciences, Biology, Environmental Sciences, among others, and across other colleges such as the School of Medicine at Wayne State University with their CEPH-accredited Masters in Public Health to expand this new undergraduate public health program and newly created undergraduate-serving Department. This position is especially suited for a change leader who is interested in leading an emerging and promising Department in a premier city with unlimited capacity for public health related initiatives.

Qualifications

DrPH or PhD in related field at time of application; MPH; at least two years of prior experience as a program director or administrator in a public health field; strong background in teaching, curricular development, and academic program experience.
