To our medical anthropology community,
On behalf of the Society for Medical Anthropology, we write to express how deeply we are grieved by the sudden loss of Dr. Paul Farmer, a giant in our field who became a symbol for social and health justice across the globe. We send condolences to his family, wife Didi Bertrand and their three children, and to his friends, many of whom are in this Society. We have been touched by his sentinel writings, his films, his global advocacy for the poor — some even by his healing care. And we express our gratitude for the time we had to learn from, work alongside, and witness the impact of this tremendous physician and medical anthropologist.
