Please join us for SMA’s Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony!

Dear fellow medical anthropologists:

I hope that you are well and holding your own during these challenging times.

I write to invite you to participate in SMA’s Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony. They will both take the form of Zoom webinars. I regret that this format places constraints on participation, but feel strongly that minimizing the possibility of Zoom bombing is crucial.

As announced previously, both events are scheduled next week, before the AAA Meeting. The AAA placed virtual business meetings and awards ceremonies before the in-person meeting in order to facilitate participation by those who will be present in Baltimore. We scheduled both at 12:00-1:30PM EST in order facilitate participation by SMA members and awardees in as broad a range of time zones as possible; I apologize to colleagues in Australia, Asia, and the Pacific that these times are woefully inconvenient.

Here are the details:

SMA Business Meeting, Tuesday, 2 November, 12:00-1:30pm EST

Participants will be invited to ask questions and offer comments using the Q&A function. If you want details on SMA activities, 2021 Reports are available in the “Reports and Documents” folder in the SMA Library section of the AAA Communities platform. Many thanks to Communications Chair Ayo Wahlberg and the University of Copenhagen for hosting the meeting.

SMA Awards Ceremony, Wednesday, 3 November, 12:00-1:30pm EST.

Closed captioning will be available for both events.

Hats off to Chair Erin Koch and the other members of the SMA/AAA Program Committee for crafting a rich set of panels for both the virtual and in-person AAA meeting. The preliminary program is available for downloading in Word form at https://annualmeeting.americananthro.org/.

In closing, we thank you all for supporting SMA and medical anthropology, and for your efforts to build more healthy, just, equitable, and inclusive worlds.

With best wishes,

Charles
