The Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an Assistant Professor to join our interdisciplinary social sciences faculty. We seek a scholar specializing in heritage, environment, and industrial communities to strengthen our graduate programs (M.S. and Ph.D.) in Industrial Heritage & Archaeology and/or Environmental & Energy Policy. A Ph.D. in Anthropology or Geography, or a related interdisciplinary field, is required by August 15, 2019.

Candidates with research foci that emphasize environmental health and/or pollution, social justice, urban and/or at-risk communities, labor relations, brownfield revitalization, or deindustrialization are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek a colleague committed to community-led or engaged collaborative research and teaching and/or GIS or related spatial sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong research program and high potential for securing external funding.

Applicants must demonstrate how their research and teaching interests strengthen one or both of our graduate programs, and articulate with one or more of our undergraduate programs in Anthropology, History, Law and Society, Social Sciences, and our new major, Sustainability Science and Society. Teaching experience is strongly preferred: the teaching load is two courses per semester, with one course per year being our core interdisciplinary course Global Issues.
