Department of Sociology Job Advertisement

The Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University seeks candidates for a tenure-track
assistant or associate professor in Sociology beginning in the Fall Semester of 2019, pending budgetary
approval. This is one of seven new positions in the WMU College of Arts and Sciences that are part of a
faculty cluster established to build on our existing excellence in public health research and community
engagement to create innovative public health solutions (
health-cluster-hire ).

The position requires a PhD degree in Sociology or a related field or evidence of imminent award. We
are seeking candidates with an active research and publication agenda in medical sociology with an
emphasis in health inequalities and in race and ethnicity. The successful candidate will be able to teach
introductory and specialized courses in these areas and to teach in other areas of the undergraduate
and graduate programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to support the success
of students from underrepresented groups. The Department of Sociology offers the MA and PhD in
Sociology and has undergraduate majors in Sociology, Criminal Justice Studies and Social Psychology.
